Descriptive Statistics

Find count, mean, median, range, and population standard deviation.

METHOD & NOTES

How descriptive statistics works

Find count, mean, median, range, and population standard deviation.

Formula and convention

Mean = sum / count. Population variance = sum((x - mean)²) / count; standard deviation is its square root.

A worked example

The sample has mean 5, median 4.5, and population standard deviation 2.

Scope and precision

Population, not sample, standard deviation. All observations are equally weighted; missing and non-numeric values are rejected.

Displayed results may be rounded. Inputs are processed locally and are not stored by this site. Keep the original values if you need to reproduce the result.

Why might another tool give a different result?

Compare unit definitions, rounding, period assumptions, and input values. This page states the convention used by this calculator.
